Time flies

This morning I dropped my 11-year-old off for her 6th-grade middle school orientation.

I'm not well.

When I returned home to edit the rest of this gorgeous tween's gallery, my brain was swirling with all kinds of emotions and thoughts.

Here's a very abbreviated list of the things taking over my brain today....

They weren't lying when other parents warned me that time flies.

The relationship and trust I continue to build with my girls is so imperative as they enter this next part of their journey.

The art of balancing the dichotomy between showing my kiddos that they are both held and free is challenging but possible.

Focus on doing more listening than talking when communicating with them.

Continue to allow them to learn from their own experiences rather than projecting my own experiences on them.

I can't believe 90's trends are coming back!

What's a reveal?

The REVEAL.

A reveal is an in-person meet-up approximately one week after a client's session to review what we have created together.

This collaborative process is so much fun and takes about an hour. Together we review all scenes and each pose side by side to find the best angle, the best lighting, with the best emotion to match.

During this time, I always remind my clients that I only want them to walk out of my studio with images they absolutely ADORE!

No more.

No less.

If they are feeling lukewarm about an image, I don't want them to select it.

Why would you?

I want infatuation.

I want excitement.

Everyone is entitled to their own feelings about whether or not to document their pregnancy with a photo shoot.

I respect your choice either way.

With that said, here are my personal thoughts on why I feel maternity photos are wonderful to have and to reflect upon...

Our bodies are freaking incredible.

Women are so insanely powerful.

We can GROW a human inside of us!

PERIODT! (I could stop here but I won't)

We all deserve to have a moment during our pregnancy to get pampered, dress up, and be treated like the dang QUEENS we are.

While pregnancy can have its many ups and downs, it still remains an experience that defines a time in the journey of our life. This is a fleeting moment.

To me, that feels worthy enough of being documented.

You're a true piece of ART!

When your son/daughter grows up and looks for a photo of their mama standing in all her strength and feminine power; what will they find?

I know what Christine's child will find!

This session was EVERYTHING today.

It's not your job to know how to pose....it's mine

“I’m so awkward in front of the camera and I don’t know how to pose.”

This is a concern for many of my clients when booking a session.

I’m here to remind you that knowing how to “pose” is not your job- it’s mine.

I pride myself on my ability to work with all body types and create flattering poses resulting in gorgeous photos.

Each session is not followed by a cookie-cutter approach- I tailor them for the individual who walks through my door.

So much thought goes into a pose based on a woman's height, shape, outfit, backdrop, and overall feel of the theme

And don’t worry, it’s not your job to know that either. I coach you through each of the poses and micro-adjust as we continue to shoot.

Bonus, I actually don’t just “tell” you, I also educate ( still using that teaching degree ) as I do it so that you can take these posing ideas into your real-life next time you’re in a group photo

There are many different answers to this subjective question.

For me "doing the work" means that each day, I actively choose to push to be a better version of myself.

The only person that I am trying to outdo, flex on, and show up is yesterday Andrea!

This looks like....

Waking up each morning and choosing to live a life on purpose.

Giving myself grace for being human and repeating old patterns.

Sitting in the discomfort of life's challenges.

Asking myself hard questions in order to dig a little deeper.

Staying present by not self-medicating in order to avoid the pain.

Refraining from pointing the finger at others and deflecting.

Thinking of a way to improve or change my behavior.

Taking the next right step in the direction of growth.

For me, this is how I choose to live my life.

This is how I choose to EVOLVE.

Alignment is waiting for you.

How can you be in receiving mode when you don't know what it's actually going to look like on the other end?

It can be so challenging when you want to know the final results and seek to silence the worry and fear swirling around in your head.

However, if you...

remain open

choose faith in the universe

remember that life is happening for you and not to you

acknowledge that a path has already been designed

utilize your innate gifts and talents, speak authentically, and listen to your intuition

This is how alignment is found and abundance follows closely behind!

These seemingly elusive ideas can be a tricky concept for some to wrap their head around.

This has been one of my biggest challenges while continuing to do the work for myself.

It's super enticing to try and course-correct when things seemly go rogue.

But, I have found that it's in those exact moments when all seems to be "going wrong" that in fact, new lessons are learned, incredible discoveries are revealed and opportunities arise.

Oftentimes, greatness is on the other side of adversity.

The joy is in the journey.

Put down the map and trust in the process.

Alignment is waiting for you.

Sometimes you need to be rattled.

I look back at the things that didn't go "as planned" in my life.

The things that created contrast.

The things that challenged me.

The things that forced me to be still.

The things that helped me grow.

And because of the work that I've done on myself, I can now sit in gratitude for it all, while still being wildly certain (yet calm) that contrast will come again many more times in my life.

Three years ago, I almost went back to teaching.

I almost threw in the photography towel.

I almost suffocated my passion.

But, the universe had a different plan for me. And, once I was tuned in, tapped in, and turned on, I was able to see the path so damn clearly.

Sometimes you need to be rattled.

Sometimes you need a gut check.

Sometimes you need a rock bottom.

Sometimes all you need to do is shut up, get quiet, and listen.

Now I allow my inner knowing to lead me, knowing that life is most certainly happening for me, not to me.

I know that I am right where I am supposed to be at this moment in time. I am so proud of the work that I am doing and how I am positively affecting each woman that I work with.

Thank you to each and every woman who has placed their trust in me over the last few years.

It's been one wild, rewarding, and incredible ride.

So, let them talk.

It's time to step out from the shadows.

I know.

It's scary.

I'm right there with ya.

You're afraid that you might be subjected to ridicule if you show up as your true authentic self.

You're fearful that you'll be too little or too much for others.

You're worried that they will talk about you when you walk away.

You're scared that you will no longer be included in plans.

Your fears, they're legitimate.

Especially if you are surrounding yourself with the wrong people.

I'm not here to tell you your fears are not real.

But what I am here to tell you is that if you stay small, lay under the radar, and play it safe, then the only person losing in this situation is YOU!

So, let them talk.

Let them judge.

Let them project their insecurities.

But, YOU.

YOU show up...always.

Show up with your gorgeous, amazing, unique self and shine that bright light inside of you for all to see.

You're incredible just the way you are!

And don't you forget it.

Be YOU!

True belonging is when you get to be yourself and you are still loved and accepted by those you care about.

The fear of not fitting in causes many of us to hide and retreat.

It causes us to diminish our light and hide our true selves at risk of feeling rejected by others.

It causes us to conform and shrink.

And then this is what leads to loneliness.

One of the many things I am trying to instill in my own Tween girls is that the path to real freedom and happiness is authenticity.

Be YOU!

Find the people who accept you for ALL that you are and for all that you have to offer.

Anything less is simply just holding you back and stifling your awesomeness.

The world needs to experience all the incredible blessings that come along with simply being you!
